How Axiros Enables For Layer 2-Provisioning And Open Access With S/PRI

The S/PRI (Supplier/Partner Requisition Interface) interface is the basis for numerous glass fiber cooperations. This interface can be used to order and manage NGN-connections.

The expansion of glass fiber in the D-A-CH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) is gathering speed and is being promoted by municipal utility and supply companies in many places.

These often quite small network operators want to offer their infrastructure to transregional providers. For this purpose, the BNetzA introduced the S/PRI ordering interface as early as 2013, which realizes the electronic ordering and provisioning of all glass fiber and copper connections. S/PRI is the standardized order interface for NGA networks (FTTH, FTTB, FTTC, summarized: FTTX).

Processes that are covered by S/PRI:

  • Provisioning

  • Changing of service

  • Termination

  • Debugging

  • Changing of provider

Your advantages:

  • Easy placing of orders with many large and small network operators

  • Access to the latest network technologies

  • Standard interface for retail and wholesale in NGA networks

  • What sounds simple is in practice associated with complex technical challenges

Open Access Partners receive real-time information about the port status, configuration, actual bandwidth and the connected CPE.

The search includes all available metadata. For example, customer number or customer name is sufficient to identify the correct DSLAM- or switch-port.

Open Access Partners receive an overview of the current port assignment of the DSLAM or switch and can activate, deactivate or reset the port.

On the one hand, infrastructure buyers are demanding an electronic way to order, monitor and troubleshoot end-customer connections from municipal utility companies. On the other hand, the infrastructure components must be automatically configured accordingly. Usually these are the OLT / ONT, a switch, or DSLAM port to which the end customer's router is connected.

Usually parameters such as upstream, downstream, VLAN, and line number are set here. During operation, customers require up-to-date port information such as port status or available bandwidth in real time. For troubleshooting, a port reset or bandwidth test must also be available via the interface.

With AX BIZ we close this gap automatically, in a standard way and from a single source. From device configuration to open access interface for customers. Municipal utility companies can make their infrastructure available and S/PRI-compliant and automate network configuration with AX BIZ.

The solution has been developed since 2017 in accordance with the practical requirements of pilot customers and is used productively at Netcom Kassel, for example, to offer the FTTX infrastructure via Vitro Connect. In this project, DSLAM ports are provided by NOKIA and ZTE and made available to buyers via a uniform REST AI. Both Netcom Kassel and Vitro Connect have access to the integrated Support Portal of AX BIZ and can thus efficiently process support requests in a common database.

In the meantime, DSLAMs and glass fiber switches from all leading manufacturers can be managed automatically with AX BIZ.

AX BIZ fits seamlessly into the solution portfolio of the AXESS product range and can be implemented without any problems as a component from AXESS version 3.11 onwards.

In summary, the AX BIZ solution adds the following functions to current AXESS installations:

  • S/PRI-compliant API for customer connection and troubleshooting.

  • Fully automated configuration of switch ports via SSH, SNMP or API calls.

  • Support Portal for suppliers and customers with the most important status information at a glance.

  • Workflows such as port reset, synchronization query or MELF-tests
